Design tools and circuit solutions for degradation-resilient analog circuits in nanometer CMOS

چکیده
With the advanced scaling of CMOS technology in the nanometer range, highly integrated mixed-signal systems can be designed. The use of nanometer CMOS, however, poses many challenges. This keynote presentation gives an overview of problems due to increased variability and reliability. Both have to be addressed by the designer, either at IC design time or through reconfiguration at IC run time. Design tools for the efficient analysis and identification of reliability problems in analog circuits is described. Also, run-time circuit adaptation techniques are presented that allow a circuit to recover from degradation failures. Georges G.E. GIELEN received the MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, in 1986 and 1990, respectively. He currently is a Full Professor at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. His research interests are in the design of analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits, and especially in analog and mixed-signal CAD tools and design automation (modeling, simulation and symbolic analysis, analog synthesis, analog layout generation, analog and mixedsignal testing). He has authored five books and more than 300 papers in journals and conference proceedings. He is Fellow of the IEEE and served as the 2005 President of the IEEE Circuits And Systems (CAS) Society.

Modeling and Simulation of Substrate Noise in Mixed-Signal Circuits Applied to a Special VCO
The mixed-signal circuits with both analog and digital blocks on a single chip have wide applications in communication and RF circuits. Integrating these two blocks can cause serious problems especially in applications requiring fast digital circuits and high performance analog blocks. Fast switching in digital blocks generates a noise which can be introduced to analog circuits by the common su...
متن کاملImpact of gate-oxide tunneling on mixed-signal design and simulation of a nano-CMOS VCO
Design optimization for performance enhancement in analog and mixed signal circuits is an active area of research as technology scaling is moving towards the nanometer scale. This paper presents an approach towards the efficient simulation and characterization of mixed signal circuits, using a 45nm CMOS voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) with frequency divider as a case study. The performance ...
متن کاملA Transistor Sizing Tool for Optimization of Analog CMOS Circuits: TSOp
Optimization of a circuit by transistor sizing is often a slow, tedious and iterative manual process which relies on designer intuition. It is highly desirable to automate the transistor sizing process towards being able to rapidly design high performance integrated circuit. Presented here is a simple but effective algorithm for automatically optimizing the circuit parameters by exploiting the ...

متن کاملFault Tolerant Reversible QCA Design using TMR and Fault Detecting by a Comparator Circuit
Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is an emerging and promising technology that provides significant improvements over CMOS. Recently QCA has been advocated as an applicant for implementing reversible circuits. However QCA, like other Nanotechnologies, suffers from a high fault rate. The main purpose of this paper is to develop a fault tolerant model of QCA circuits by redundancy in hardware a...
